I have a '74 1.7 may 1.8 I have no clue, previous owners disagree. The hoses were disconnected, some missing, and some misplaced. So, what hose goes where? Mine is still fuel injected and with no air box, just a direct 4" filter screwed on the end of the intake hose. My main boggle is what hoses go where off of the intkae manifold? Are these hoses why my 914 will not idle and only die if not given gas?
I've seen the posted hose diagram, and none of them look like my set up. 1.7, 1.8, or 2.0. It looks like little bits of the all. Someone please just post a detailed discription of the set up, or post a picture so I know what it is supposed to look like. Thanks for your help, I greatly appreciate it!!! Jay

Any vacume leak and the car will not run at all. Do you have l-jet or D-jet injection? Is there a large silver box with a black wire harness coming out of it somewhere befor the throttle body? If so this is your air metering box and the injection is L-jet. Let me know and i can look at my car and give you a hand. Don't know much about D-jet though.

Hey i own a 74 1.8L with all the original vacume hoses and lines. As to the question of what kind of FI you have, you probably have the Ljet FI. as for your idleing problem that might very well be your problem. but you really need to hook up all your hoses and find out. The L-jet FI HATES vacume leaks. so get it put together and see how she does. I know Pelican Parts has a real good hose diagram. (I know because i just printed one out) let me try ot find it and i will post the link. Good Luck... your not alone with car troubles...enough people here will back me on that

hey i feel your pain. I own a 74 1.8l too. Mine in L-jet and yours in probably the same. You said that you have some hoses hooked up? Well that might be your idling problem. these FI's HATE vacume leaks. anyways the only way to know for sure is to get those hoses hooked up. Pelican has a great diagram (see the link) I know it is accurate because i have used it my self. anyways hope this helps

It is a '74 1.8L, the Pelican diagram some how just doesn't totally fit my engine layout. Now I could be wrong here. It is possible some of the parts have been relocated, such as the decel. valve, fuel pres. regulator, and what not.
#1 question What hooks up to the 3 hose hook up decel valve & where does the Right side of oil fill cap (mounted: hose connection for hose pointing up) oil breather hose go. The oil breather hose was connected to intake manifold just above engine code #. Now why would it connect to the manifold when oil can go down through the hose and spit into the manifold? GOD HELP ME, MY 914 WAS BUILT IN HELL!!!! THANKS GUYS! Jay

I came across the same problem with using the PP diagram and trying to figure out where everything went. I think the diagram is for a 75 L-jet which isn't quite the same. I've got mine running extremely well now, since replacing all the lines (among other things). So, I'll go out tomorrow and write down where everything goes on mine and then post it for ya.

Ok... I am not sure how to help you out. I am positive that mine is a 74 1.8L engine with the L-jet FI system on it. The diagram from pelican parts fits mine exactly. Really it is like I wrote it for my engine. Maybe the previous owner swaped some parts from a different model? Did he mention anything about modifications when you bought it? Any upgrades or does it look like factory stuff from other models? Honestly though i have heard horror stories about what some STUPID people do to these great cars. (my good friend bought one and pulled everything from Orange silicon to a green garden hose) So the previous owner might have Jery-rigged your engine. maybe you could post a picture of you engine bay so we could see what you are talking about. Good luck. I know my car need alot right now as well

Hmmm, this is exactly what mine looks like (the diagram above) and the car is running great. As far as I know, the 74's didn't have the EGR valve, I don't think that they were required until 75. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that. It would be interesting to see you're engine compartment Jay, so if possible post a pic of it.

You are right David.
My 74 1.8 is exactly like this diagram with no EGR valve. I connected the oil breather to a catch tank so the oil doesn't clog the throttle body and there is no charcoal canister so the top air cleaner output is blocked. Also there are hoses on both sides of the throttle body and the top one is going directly to the top input of the vacuum advance unit. Hope this help.

I have wondered why my throttle body only has one connection. Any thoughts?

I have a 74 1.8 and it only has one connection on the throttle body. Just set it up like pelican parts EFI hose diagram (although the diameters given weren't exactly the same as mine "?") and it should work fine...mine did and still does.
