Unhappy suspension console?

hello , I have a problem. I have a 1973 porsche 914. My car is a victum of rust in the suspension area. The passenger side tire leans up, down, in and out. I suspension console is rusted and I don't know how to exactly fix it. Is there anyone out there who has fixed this problem. I live in nowhere West Virginia and I would love to cruise around in this thing. I have never actually seen another 914. Please tell me what to do.

thanks

Chris-

I hope you aren't cruising in the car in its current condition. That is a very dangerous problem common to 914s in the rust belt. It can be fixed by finding a "doner" suspension console and welding it in. Quite a process, but the only way to fix it right.

You should really start looking around for other rust areas in the car. Usually the suspension console is one of the last things to go. Check under the battery tray, rocker panels, etc. If you are going to fix it, you might as well get it all.

Sometimes the cost of repair panels and labor is more than finding a good doner shell, but it's really up to you. If you want to fix it go for it.

Good luck,

Iwas in a similar situation when I bought mine. I used some angle iron, excess metal shelving, square tube, and various other bits and pieces of scrap iron I had laying around.
I would not do it that way again, but that was before I found this board and thought I had a really rare car. The repair is stable and does fit with my 5 year plan for the car.
It can be done, but you would be better off trying to find a better chassis.
