New Engine Swap Idea?

Hey guys I had and idea and maybe you have heard of it before so here goes.
I used to have a very fun 914. I unfortunately sold it, but I always dreamed of installing a 911 engine in it. My question is has anybody ever thought of putting in a Boxster unit?
It may not be feasable or even cost effective (what on an old Porsche is?). Just wondering if anyone has researched/tried.
Found this auction on ebay for an engine:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1842666808
Thanks

It's been talked about, but never to my knowledge done.

Could be fun, but it sounds like it's more work to do than putting a V8 in. The drivetrain is rather large and heavy, and all the electronics make it a little tough to hook up nicely. Plus you'd still have to hack things for a radiator or three.

Neat idea, though!

Oh Well

Thanks Guys. Thought it was crazy, and had an idea the radiator thing might be tricky. I might just be an idiot, but to me it is almost blasphemous to put a V8 in a Porsche. Forget the VW/Pcar 914 argument. I loved my 914 and it was a Porsche. I you have to have more hp's throw a real flat 6 in it.
Keep up the good work, and please don't let the little guys die of slow, painful, rusty, cancer!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/vuur1.gif

We have measured for it.

The engine is much wider than a 911 3.0-3.6

I know 2 people who are already doing this conversion.

The water lines and radiators id the easy part.

The electronics have yet to be figured out.

The conclusion (will be) that they have to run the Boxster dash.

If you are going to go through all that trouble, why not just use this?

The turbo engine is easier to install. It bolts up to a 901/915/930/G50/G50-50 tranny.

The Boxster engine will have to be used with the Boxster box until somebody comes up with an adapter.

Ha ha.. somewhat of a plumming nightmare for the Turbo's, but actually it would be easier.

No one is ever happy. Maybe we should dig out the old story of strapping a JATO solid fuel booster to the targa. One blast, but WHAT a blast.
