Fog Lights Install on a '75
OK I have a quick question on fog light install for the '75-'76 models. Mine didn't have them before, so I just want to be sure.... am I supposed to CUT the bumper out where the fog will go!? I thought it was just a plug but it appears to be a solid piece of rubber. Is this hard to do? Don't want to hack up my bumper!
Thanks,

Hello,
I just did this to my 75. The rubber is thick, but I used a #11 exacto and cut from the back. It cut really nice and I was able to clean it up with the #11 if I made any small errors. Since there is a lot of rubber there it is actually easy to do. It feels like it is cutting hard, but just make one swipe and press out the center. Sorta like cutting soft plexiglass. The big problem is that most 75's that came without Fog lights, also did not have the fog light mounting bracket welded to the bumper. Before I would cut anything, make sure those brakets are there. Luckily mine did have them! Though the lights in the post above look nice (I looked into that option as well, the fit was just not right for me) I would try to get the Porsche light since it fits perfectly into the space and it looks so nice. Any 1975-76 914 OR 1974-86 911 fog light is a perfect fit! You can find them used for a few bucks and Pelican has the lenses for $10.00 each if the used ones are broken or pitted. Makes a world of difference. Before: ![]() After:

Thanks! That's great info. Just to be sure, the mounting brackets are just slots underneath where the fogs would go, right? I see one on each side so I think I'm good. Lucky I guess!
Coincidentally I got a free set of lights from our friend James Adams and the new lenses should arrive in about an hour. I like the stock look myself, although both types are very nice. I still can't believe what a great deal those lenses are! Thank you for the reply. Your car looks great!

Here is a quick sketch I made of what the Fog light bracket looks like on mine:
![]() If you have these right under the opening in the back of the front bumper you are set. Gotta love these cars. My wife is starting to hide the boxes from Pelican when they come. She knows when they do I spend time in the garage. Silly girl!

Thanks Christopher. That's what they look like. I can cut away!
Yeah I think we have some similarities here... our first names, car year and engine type, and the fact that our wives hide the Pelican stuff (although I imagine that is not uncommon). I gotta rush home there's another box on the porch waiting for me!!! Seriously though it was nice of you to sketch that out before I cut my car up. Regards,
