speaker installation
The PO cut holes in the door panels of my car so I finally decided to put speakers there so I no longer have to look at the holes.
Anyway, I see that many people are putting 6.5in speaker in the door panels. I bought pioneer 2-way 5.25in speaker and tried to fit them in the door panel. However, on my 74 914 the speaker basket hits the metal "bracing" on the door. Did anybody else have this problem or do you have to modify the door itself. thanks Justin |

The best way to make them fit is probably to make a spacer ring to go between the speaker basket and the door. MDF works well, in whatever thickness you might need. Be sure to put a bead of RTV or something on each side to prevent leaks and rattles. Just out of curiosity, what kind of setup are you putting in, as far as the head unit and speakers, amps, whatever...

thanks for the help. I was think ing about going to same way, since I really don't like to cut my door up.
I am not sure what I am going to do about the head unit. I was thinking about putting my VW's head unit (1997) but I really don't want o mess around with the wiring harness for that (unless I could get an adapter) I will probably go with a blaupunkt head unit and no amp since I don't have the money right now. I am still trying to sort out the wiring mess I have under the dash. Justin |

I am sure you can get an adapter for that head unit.
Just remember that it does get wet inside the doors when it rains. Make sure the plastic behind the door panels is in good shape or else your speakers could get trashed. |
