Question Valve Adjustment on a 75-76 with stock exchangers?

Hello,

Is it possible to do a valve adjustment on a 75-76 914 with stock exchangers on it, or do they need to come off? It looks really tight up there with them on.

Thanks,

it s very tight but it can be done

use a rope or rag around the bail wire to get it off

adjust away then use a screwdriver to slowly work the bail wire back up

It is tight. Angled feeler gauges I'm sure would make it easier (just bought mine, haven't tried it yet). The hardest part of the whole process is getting the bail wire off. I've been using the screwdriver on the end of the wire where it pivots. I never liked that idea, but the wire comes off quick.

I'll try the rope trick next!!

I've also found out if you spray a little light lubricant on the bail wire and valve cover where they touch, it's much easier to get it back together. Remember to wipe the lube off when your done.

Yes it can be done, even using standard straight feeler gauges. PITA? Sure is!
