LSD vs Torque Biasing (Torsional) Differentials
Okay.... looking for everyone's opinions on the two types of differentials. LSD (80/20 or 60/40 split) vs Torque Biasing (Quaife-type).
Car would be primarily a street car with an occasional driver's ed event. Just trying to ed-uh-kate myself! Thanks,

You may have already done this based on previous LSD threads, but a call/email to Paul Guard may be highly worthwhile. I don't know Paul personally but he is clearly a respected expert in this field, and manufactures/sells some popular and race-proven products.
Whatever you find out on this topic, I'd love to hear it. I'm on the same path myself. Most likely I will have a race trans expert like Otto or one of the very few others build it for me, but I'll be needing a 914/901 rig complete with reliability mods and LSD sometime soon. If all goes according to plan it will have a 275-325hp sixer on one side and some big gummy slicks on the other side.

Spoke with Paul Guard.. and he was leaning me towards the LSD style.
Spoke with Rich Johnson, and he was leaning be towards the torque biasing (torsional) style. hmmm.... Regards, Karl Ellzey

Call Rich back and ask him what is in his car (I know what is in it) Rich just resells Pauls LSD's so Paul should be the answer man more so than Rich. Not slamming Rich..oh, "hell yes I am" Rich doesnt have any track or autoX experience to know the difference between LSD and Torque Bias... LOL tell him I said that. Chris, we have a special on Guard LSD's for 1100$ + 180$ install. The Torque biasing diff takes awhile to get used too. Its kinda clunky. You feel it working. The ZF style will be almost unoticeable until you go around a familiar corner that would normally cause the inside tire to break loose and it doesnt. You need to check back with Paul on this, but I'm almost positive that the Torque biasing diff weighs a lot more than the ZF style. This means more weight to accelerate. B |

If you think, during your driving, one of the rear wheels will leave to ground use a ZF. The torque bias LSD will NOT work with a wheel lifted. Tight A/X torns may cause a wheel to lift. ZFs are adjustable so you can set it where you want.
