Rear Wheel Bearings---Where'd I go wrong?
Wondering what I did wrong. New rear bearings, very careful not to
bugger 'em when installing, knowing it's easy to do if not done correctly. Whole rear is out for new everything. Was just test fitting the hubs, both sides, to see if would slide in easy or be hard to re-fit--both sides slid right in----and when pulling hub back out, (easily by hand), the race comes with. Both sides same thing. So, easily slid it off the hub, but damn if either one will go back in. I mean, we're not talking even tugging hard even, to get it out, barely had to pull at all. But no way it feels like it' ll go back in. Not sure why. Did I have them in wrong? Should be flipped around? Possible to get the race back in to where the ball bearings are? I mean...supposed to be like this? Thanks for any in put. p2 |

The race should go back into the bearing without much trouble.
You will have to carefully reseat the lip of the grease seal. If the seal is damaged you have to replace the entire bearing.

It's a one shot deal. The inner race will pull out when you drive the stub out. The stub should always need to be pulled/pressed in. a neat trick I use is to flip the castellated nut over and it *just* fits inside and can grab the stub. Then use an impact to pull it through just enough to flip the nut the right way round, add the washer, and drive it home with the impact gun.
