Shipping Parts - Warning Contains Rant

I am so P.O.'d at Fedex. What is the point in having all of your contact information on a package if they never use it? I shipped a starter to a Gentleman (And he is! And a truely understanding soul). After 10 days of not hearing from him, I checked the package delivery status. It stopped tracking 2 days after I shipped it. To make a long story short, Fedex damaged the package, lost the contents, filled out thier regular forms, and threw away the remainder. It is not in thier proceedures to contact the shipper in the case of damage. You, the shipper, or the recipient have to figure out that something is wrong (Devine intervention, scattering chicken bones, etc) and contact them. Guys at Pelican: How often do you have to deal with stuff like this? What percentage of your packages don't make it to the buyer? Makes me want to take all of the extra parts I have send them to the crusher instead of selling them! OK, Sorry about this whole thing.... OK JAMES - you think FEDEX is bad - ship UPS - then you'll really have something to rant about.
How 'bout a pair of '99 LT1 heads, shipped to TX and while enroute they decided to run a forklift into the package and they delivered them that way - TOTALLY UNUSEABLE. Since the value was over $100, you have to go to a consigned company and argue with them. They want purchase records, copies of shipping docs, images prior and after and you have to browbeat them to send you the paperwork to fill out a claim. I now have junk aluminum, additonal shipping, and had to come up with another set of heads AND they still haven't paid. To hell with the purchase cost, I want the sell cost - it's none of their damn business how much profit I make. Oh! Bring the parts up to Glenn's place - we'll crush them for you:D Ron |

mileWavy I think I have had problems with every shipping compary on the planet! U.P.S.,Fed -X, Air Borne, U.S.P.O., . The Thing TO REMEMBER IS ALWAYS INSURE FOR AT LEAST YOUR COST. THE NEXT THING IS TO RAP IT LIKE IT IS GOLD,BECAUSE TO SOME ONE ELSE IT IS. TAKE THE TIME TO DUE IT RIGHT. THERE ARE COMPANYS THAT MAKE A BUSSNESSS OF WRAPPING THINGS, AND SELLING BOXES TO SHIP IN. tHIS IS A COST THAT YOU PASS ON TO THE BUYER. I JUST BOUGHT A PART ( I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR MOUNTHS) THE GUY SHIPPED IT WRAPPED IT IN BROWN PAPER. AND (WHAT DO YOU THINK) IT ARRIVED BROKEN. NOW I GO AND BUY A BOX TO SHIP IT BACK TO HIM IN ($3.17). HE LOOSES THE PROFIT,AND i AM STILL LOOKING FOR THE SAME PART,AND HAVEN"T MY MONEY BACK. YET! THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT!! All they need is a little help...
We (my company) were having some custom precision optics shipped from CA to CO. Somewhere in Nevada the box fell off the FedEx truck and landed somewhere on the side of the road. Amazingly, someone found it and brought it into a FedEx office. It was only 4 days late, but we got the package, despite FedEx's attempt to lose it's $10,000 contents. Thank you to the hard working employees of FedEx and the civilians willing to help them out!

I've had next to zero problems over the years in shipping hundreds of packages (work-related, p-car related etc).
Last week I did experience what was hopefully a "fluke" with USPS -- took them a full week to deliver a package about 30 miles. It was oversized, but not heavy, hazardous, or terribly fragile. I agree 100% about packaging...most shipping damage can be avoided by proper packing. If the value and nature of your item requires a wood crate, double-walled box, or whatever - it's worth it. Most buyers would rather pay a few bucks for packaging and shipping costs as opposed to risk total loss of the item. Only item I've ever had completely destroyed was by an airline...on this one flight, the baggage nazi's would not allow us to carry-on a computer equipment case that had been carried-on many other flights previously. This was a purpose-built, hard plastic case with high density foam inside, etc. The equipment inside was a total loss - looked about like they ran over it with the plane. They forked over their coverage but our insurance ate the rest. |
We live about 8-10 miles from the local UPS depot. My wife had the house built a little over 20 years ago, and there are about 35 other families on the block. We live on Park Drive, and this is the only section there is of this street, though there is a section of Park Road about 4 miles away. The house numbering on Park Drive and Park Road are not even remotely similar. My wife is a QVC/HSN addict so we get UPS shipments 4 or 5 times a week. At least once a month we get a postcard or phone call from UPS saying they don't know where we are. :mad:
Our route man knows us (obviously) but the depot can't keep trained people to sort packages to the right area. Oh well Harvey |

Up here UPS thinks their the government. If you don't use their brokerage service, you can only pick up your paperwork to clear customs between 11am & 2pm. They also decided that they don't need a signature for any shipments. Had them leave $2K worth of bows on my front steps and several boxes of clothing out back (only were rained on them for two days).
At least in the US they try to do it right. |
Hi all - been in Lurk for quite a while....
Pretty funny that the only thing I have ever had damaged in shipping was an Autopower ROLL BAR!!!! UPS couldn't explain how they damaged something that was made to take an impact. Word to the wise - always get the insurance.... Scott S |
