Shifting problem

OK here's the latest problem: For the first 3 years of ownership I never took my car on long drives (>30 miles at a time). Now I've become braver and have begun venturing out farther from home. I've found that when the temp goes up during a long highway stint (temp needle points to about 12:30 or 1 o'clock), I have trouble getting the car to go into 4th gear. If I stop for a while and the car cools down the problem goes away. It never did this before. Thats why I think it's temp related. Waddaya think?

Check your oil level in the tranny first.

If it's been more than a couple of years since it was last changed, then go ahead and change the fluid. It should be done about every other year regardless. Kinda like brake fluid, though not quite for the same reason...

When you refill the tranny it might be a good idea to use Swepco fluid, helps the shifting. Also you could check the shift bushings and engine/tranny mounts to see if they have failed. But I suspect the tranny fluid. Good luck.
