How stiff should they be?

I've got what I assume is stock Boge shocks on my '75. I was replacing the last ball joint this weekend. So while the ball joint was disconnected I lifted up the strut/brake assembly to check out the stiffness of the dampening. It didn't feel like a lot, but there definately was some dampening going on. No sudden dropping to the bottom after letting the assembly go.

How stiff should the dampening be for these shock inserts be?
