engine bay insulation
Has anyone replaced their engine bay insulation with another type of lightweight material? Performance Products sell a Thermo Acoustic Hoodliner that looks good... has anyone installed this product?

I had used the under-hood insulation material that I pat from Automotion (I think) years ago on one of my 914s. It had a celled-foam core adhesive on one side, and a shiny reflective material on the other side. I used it in place of the heavy rubber firewall insulation pad.
First thing I did was to put aircraft stripper on the firewall and remove the paint and glue and gunk from the old firewall material. Repaired a few rust spots with new metal, and then had it resprayed. Then I "stuck" the new material on. It was sort of a cut-to-fit thing. I didn't do much far as sound deadening. I guess it's better had heat reflecting. It did sort of "dress up" the engine compartment. I think I have a picture... You really can't see that well. ![]()
