Driver seat will not move AT ALL!
Newly acquired '70 914. I previously owned one back in the 80s "before I knew what cash flow meant" so I'm getting reacquainted again. My seat will adjust up and down but will not slide on the tracks. My handle on the right side is broken off so I slid a hacksaw blade down the track to disengage the lock from the track but still no joy. Am I correct that the seat is only locked on the right side where the handle should be? I have tried tapping the seat on both sides to get some movement with no success. I am 6'3 and 200+ so getting in and out is somewhat comical. This seat MUST go back. any ideas?

There is a secondary catch under the other seat rail. You can reach under it and push up. It should only be there to keep the seat from sliding all the way forward, but it may have gotten messed up enough to keep the seat from sliding at all.
Another possibility is that there is just too much solidified grease and gunk and dirt on the tracks that the seat won't slide. You might also not be pushing the tab up with that hacksaw blade. Too bad you don't have a 72+ car with the moveable passenger seat; you could pull that one out and use it for reference. Is there any way you can remove the bolts that hold the seat rails onto the floor pan? If you can then pull the seat out and address the bits directly on the bench, rather than in the car. --DD

Unfortunately I found the problem. A previous owner had welded the outside track to the pan at the rear of the track and distorted the track with heat. Track was bent so when the seat was put in and slid back, it jammed and would not go forward then. Oh well, took as many screws out of the seat as I could and then ripped the seat off the track. I know, it hurt me too. But the seat is still in tact and I placed it back in the car and it sits perfect for my height. Will try to attach it directly on the track on a warmer day.
