Windage tray seals question
Ok since I am in the question asking mood here is another. I have a friend who is rebuilding a 1.7. He didn't get a seal for the windage tray along the edges with the gasket set from one of the locals. I was wondering if this seal is really needed? Is it for vibration protection against the case. I asked one of the local bug shop guys but he said he had never seen a windage tray in a type 4. Well obviously it does just maybe not on anything going into a VW. He thought about leaving it out, but I say leave it in, free h.p.

Windage tray seals are NLA, so they don't come in gasket sets. Many motors,as you already know, didn't have trays so it would be an additional expense for the gaskest co. to included them in every set.
I would not use the tray w/o the seals. On the Type4um they say to use surgical tubing. You might do a search over there. http://shoptalkforums.com/bbs/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=The+Type+4rum&number=1&DaysPrune=&LastLogin= |
