Well as much as I hated the idea of pulling the motor again I am really glad I did because it removes doubt and instills confidence that my heads are correctly sealed. I discovered that they most certainly were not sealed very well at all.
I am in the process of lapping the cylinders to the heads and have a question I couldn't find covered in my search. There seem to be two mating surfaces 1. The inner / recessed ring. and 2. The flat ring on the face of the head that mates to the outer ring of the cylinder. Do I need to ensure both rings are lapped and mated or just the inner / recessed ring? I thing I would need to remove quite a bit of material in order to allow the outer ring to mate. Thanks in advance for your feedback. |

Top of cylinder has to be mated into the head. The very top of cylinder not the fins.
Also do not use head seal rings that come with gasket set. Hope this helps. |

Nord,
Yep I figured it was just the the parts that mate to the recess in the head but wanted to ensure I didn't put it back together only to later hear a nightmare story about how someone didn't mate the fin to the outer ring in the cylinder. |
