Clutch parts reuse???
A leaky seal has destroyed the friction disc.
I would like to reuse the t-out bearing and replace the friction disk. How can I tell if the t-out is worn or bad? The fingers on the p-plate are not grooved badly. Thanks for helping a East Coast CSOB

The throw out bearing should turn smoothly with no "catching or roughness.
The pressure plate is another call. Can't see the grooves you are talking about. Are all the fingers equal? Possibility of warping if the clutch slipped excessively - friction face will have burn (heated metal) marks on it.

I would look for signs of heat stress on the pressure plate. Blued rings or lines would indicate overheating. Cracks of course are bad.
Check the fingers on the pressure plate for cracking or grove marks. If it's not blued or cracked and the fingers are good, i would clean it up with a scotchbrite pad on a die grinder and use it.

Easy way to check out the bearing....
Put it on the floor... step on it and give yourself a spin... should feel real smooth with no grinding or catching.... Send us a picture of you spinning... - Dave |
