Relays and other unknown parts

Is there a page or doc on this site that describes what the relays or flashers on the backside of the fuse panel are? I've got something in there clicking on a one second interval.

Also, what are the two parts mounted under the battery tray beside the resistor pack? They are like a relay and a connector plugged into a small terminal board. Sorry my description is poor, but since there isn't much else there I'm hoping someone will know what I'm describing.

Thanks a lot!

I did some more searching of the forum and I think I found the answer to the second question. Double relay.

I'd still appreciate any responses about identifying the relays and flashers, though.

Thanks!

Hello,

I have a 75, and since you have a double relay you have a 74 or 75 1.8 as well.

Under the fuse panel it seems like the position of the relays can be switched around. But I will describe mine. I have recently gone through them.
I have 5 relays under there.

One the fuse panel is unscrewed and hanging I will describe them left to right.

1 -- Circular relay (Power)
2 -- Square Silver upsidedown relay (High Low Beams)
3 -- Tall Square relay (Turn signal/emergancy flasher)
4 -- Circular relay (Horn)
5 -- Circular relay (Fog lights)

The tall one is the one that clicks when you use the turn signals. It also flashes when you Pull the emergency brake or the Brake fluid is low. When this happens the big red dash light should also blink if wired correctly.

I hope this helps,

You bet that helps! This car has 20 year old brake fluid, for one thing. So that may be setting it off. Also, I was replacing the steel cable from the parking brake lever to where the cables come through the firewall. I was holding on the cables while I pinned in the new part when it all got away from me and something that had a spring attached to it in there came loose. Maybe that went to a switch or sensor.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad to hear there is some 'normal' condition that causes this. I was beginning to believe the PO did some re-hookup or jackleg wiring that I wasn't aware of (and I would hate troubleshooting that type of unknown).

It sounds like the problem is in what you have been doing to the Emergency brake lever. To reset the Brake fluid situation, if that is it, there is a button on the master cylinder. I don't know exactly, but there have been posts on that in the past.

But if you were working on the lever, that is where the problem will be.

Good luck,

Thanks. I got the brake lever fixed. The pushbutton for the lever was missing. I've got some rust in that area. If I ground the wire the clicking changes, so I'll go and look for a reset on the master cylinder.
