Front Sway Bar
 

A good friend of mine, who had a 914 back in the day, remembers mounting a front sway bar on his car. He does not however, remember drilling holes in the inner fenders and lifting the gas tank to install that sway bar.

Does anyone have a front sway bar kit available that does not require drilling holes and lifting the gas tank? I have looked around but haven't found one. Anyone out there know of one?

15 or so years ago a company named Automotion sold a bottom mount bar and hardware. I bought one second hand and found it worked terrible mainly because it it the street with the smallest bump. I sold it and used a factory type.

I think you would be much happier if you went with a stock unit. Yes, you will need to drill two holes and remove the gas tank, but it is the best solution.

Later 911s used an under-body sway bar. It mounted to two of the steering rack bolts, I think? It's something of a PITA to install, because you have to bend the bar to fit it through the bushings on the A-arms. It cannot be made adjustable, either.

The stock 914-type bar is better in just about every way--except for price. It is cheaper for the factory to bend one rod and jam it in place than to cut the holes to push the bar through, and build or buy separate drop-links, etc. Whenever allowed by the rules, 911 race cars will covert to the same style of bar that we get as stock...
