stuck valves?

I pulled the head a few weeks ago and and wanted to check to see how far the valves opened. On one intake valve I can push it open with my thumbs, the others don't budge. I dont have a valve spring compressor and when I tried a large C clamp it kept sliding off. If they are stuck is there a way to unstick them without taking them apart.

I'd say this probably means that one has a very weak valve spring or the others are welded to their seats? You will have to get/rent a valve spring compressor to remove the keepers and retainers and the have each spring tested for height and strength. The valve will open as far as the cam lobe will push it or if you are using a compressor, until the coil binds. I'd recommend finding a shop where someone can show you how to do this since if the springs are too low in closed or open pressures, valve failure can result from floating, with terrible results. Good luck.

I m with John, the one that you can push down with your thumb sounds very suspect and weak. The one that wont budge needs a valve compressor. I rented one for free from my local store "autozone" its just a $16 deposite. Definetly seek professional help if you are concerned about this area, big $$$
Luck
