3.0L CIS in a 914 > any comments?

Hi, still debating about how to keep pace with Marc-André Morin 3.0L 914/6. In my options, there is a 1979 3.0L CIS.

Any thoughts on how the fit will be?
Any pitfalls?
If i sell the CIS stuff, does it have a value?

Thanks!

A 3.0 CIS motor will fit fine -- Wayne and MikeZ, among others have done this.

If you convert the car to carbs or some other FI setup (which would necessitate cams and head work BTW) then I'm sure you could sell the CIS parts for something. There are thousands of SC owners who might want to stash some spares.

Check the Six conversion articles elsewhere on this site for info on how Wayne got his CIS to fit without cutting the rear trunk. I think Z did cut his. Regardless, you wind up losing the latch so you have to relocate it or figure out some other way to deal with the engine lid.

Carb conversion does not require cam or head changes. In fact, power increases are documented for stock SC motors just by switching to carbs. But if you do the cams and heads, you will get more out of it...

Yeah I did one....cut the trunk latch out and used hood pins....kept the CIS for the ability to run from sea level to the mountains and back. The air box was in the way....not a big deal, NOT a concours type a car....

Broke a head stud and did the 964 cam upgrade....did a valve job and a few other things while I was in there......sold the whole car for 50 cents on the dollar.....

Would I do it again, not really, shoulda kept the damn car though....

SOB ran like steenk....
