914 Radio Install

Question for all of those that know the 914 inside and out. I am in the process of installing an aftermarket radio. I uninstalled the abomination that the original owner had put in sometime in the 80s and found the wiring to be completely bastardized. My new head unit needs constant on power and switched power. Is there a "best" place to tap into these? Fusebox? I have the Haynes manual, but am still not certain which is the safest route to go.

Thanks,

Kevin

Fusebox should be easy and safe to get both.

Fuses #10, 11, and 12 should have constant power. Fuse #9 should have switched power, and fuse #8 should have switched power that is fed by a current-dropping relay.

You can often find male terminals poking out of the back of the fuse holders that you can simply slip a female spade lug onto. Make sure you're on the "downstream" side of the fuse--the one that doesn't get any power when the fuse is removed or is popped.
