Trip Odometer Knob removal

Just had my speedometer/trip odometer rebuilt and want to reinstall. However the trip odometer knob won't come off the end of the cable. In fact I sent it out that way and has been stuck since I bought the car.

Does anyone know if it is threaded on or how to remove it? I don't want to force it and wind up breaking it off.

There is a VERY small set screw somewhere in the plastic knob part. real hard to see. Then it will just pull off.

I was just going to say it looks like someone screwed a wirenut on to the end of the cable. My car is a 74, it also has a metal knob on the odometer reset cable.

As others have said, that's NOT the proper nut. Use some vise grips to carefully hold the cable and remove the nut. Might want to just crush the nut, though, AFTER finding and aquiring the correct part. I'm sure there's someone here who has a complete cable, or even just the nut. If not, look for Bruce Stone over on the World site.

This is out of a '76. Can not find any set screw on it. It does look like a wire nut and if not original whoever put it on must have really locked it in good because I'm twisting and pulling and fighting this thing like crazy and it won't budge. Guess it will have to be broken off after I find an original part. Thanks!!
