Northeast 9/14 get-together

Hi everybody.

To celebrate the international day of the teener (9/14), I thought that I would host a get-together for the enthusiasts in the Northeast. Here are the details:

9:14 am – For those interested, meet for breakfast at the Station House in Redding, CT. The Station House makes a fabulous breakfast. However, be prepared to leave your cholesterol concerns at the door. They make everything using real butter. Here is the information for the restaurant. Station House

Click on the driving directions link to figure out how to get there and how far away you may be.

After breakfast – Head on over to my house. If you’ve made it to the restaurant, believe me you will be able to find my place. (I’ll have a sign out front as well.) Here we can check out the cars and engage in some "bench racing". I have parking for about 25 cars at my house. However, if we need more space, we can also park on the grass.

Lunch – Around lunch-time I’ll fire up the grill and provide everyone some grilled flesh (hot dogs and burgers) along with some sides, chips, soda and beer.

As you can see, this is nothing formal and very loosely organized. Bringing a 914 or other Porsche is encouraged but not required. If you’re interested in stopping by, drop me a note at paul@andieheery.com.

well, it's 3 hours away, but I'll make an attempt at the trip. I will probably need a cell number or two just in case I have trouble. Sounds like fun, keep me posted.

Paul, I'll certainly try. I will be in Ridgefield in the morning but with the bike; it needs a tire. If it gets done early enough I'll zip back and fetch the car.

The get-together is still on. I thought I would post this FAQ for people that might be considering attending.

I can’t make it by 9:14. Can I come later?
You have four options regarding your attendance. You can:
1. Come for breakfast at 9:14
2. Come to my house for lunch. We’ll probably be assembling there starting around 10:30.
3. Come for breakfast and lunch.
4. Not come at all.

What’s the deal? Do I have to help you clean the garage or something?
No. There are no strings attached. I just thought it would be fun to host an informal gathering.

What about an organized drive? Other gatherings seem to do this.
Everyone will experience a nice drive to get here in the first place. And, I can point you to some nice twisty roads for your trip home. So, the drives will be solo events before and after the gathering.

Can I bring my (spouse, girlfriend, children, etc.)?
Everyone is welcome.

Will there be Internet access?
If it pains you that much to be away from the Pelican BBS for a while, you have bigger issues. But, yes I have a few PCs wired (and unwired) for Internet access. (This was an actual question. Even I wouldn’t have thought to ask this.)

Will there be prizes?
Uhh…no.

My car isn’t running. Can I come anyway?
Boy, that’s unusual, a 914 that isn’t running. Alright, let me think about this…Yes. You can come.

Can I bring anything?
No. I’ve got you covered.

What time is it over?
I take my nap at 3:00. So I want you all gone by then.

What’s the address?
I’m at:
7 Sidecut Road
Redding, CT 06896

My house is set back from the main road about 200 yards down a private access road. (Yes, it’s paved.)

Is there a contact number in case I get lost?
My cell is 203.417.1914

Please let me know if you think that you may be attending. I want to make sure that I've got enough beer.

How many are planning to attend? I'll pick up a pair of borrowed springs today and with lick have no problems. I'll take a shack down ride Friday then if all goes well, with plan the drive to CT...

3 hours each way with no radio, race seats and a loud motor, what fun.

I don't know, 9:14am is pretty early for a Saturday...

See you there. Paul, thanks for setting something up like this! Maybe you guys can help me locate whatever has taken to squeaking up front since the last (very wet) DE.

Anyone else heading down from NH or MA? I'm looking to caravan as I haven't developed the confidence in the car yet.

Ed, what time are you leaving? How long for me to get to your area?

I was thinking about trying to make it but I just pulled my new engine last night to tear it down again. The oil was just a little too glittery. It would be fun to meet you all. Maybe another time

My shake down run didn't go too well. The 140lb springs I ordered didn't stop much rubbing, so more fender work is needed. I also found out that a lot of oil is squirting out onto the top of my engine and even onto the carbs, so I need to track that down. Last problem that surfaced today is a strange popping noise in the carbs (I assume). It sounds like opening an ice tea bottle. I hope this isn't the infamous perkulating (sp?) that I hear about.

Maybe a 911 would be better?

Hope to catch ya'll later,

The weather was gorgeous and we had a number of great people show up for the get-together. I took some pictures to share with everyone.

First up, we have the largest collection of 914s that Connecticut has seen in years.

Next, is Ed M’s “beater” 914. (His wife voted against the turbo for today.)

Here we have SummerSledSix’s SummerSledSix.

This is RacerChris’ track-ready, yet street legal backup car. I didn’t take a picture of it, but this car also has Chris’ 4-cyl header system installed. It’s a very nice setup.

This one is mine.

This is jabb’s nice 6 conversion

Here are the early-arrivals from another angle.

This is a shot of RacerChris’ interior. Check out the Lecarra steering wheel. And, take a close look at that roll cage. That is a nice piece of work.

This is a pic of the interior of John’s car showing off his new roll cage.

Now, let’s put some faces with the names. Here is Ed and John discussing the meaning of life.

Here are Chris and Joe discussing the benefits of thinning hair while Ed looks on in amusement.

Now, Joe (jabb) had said that he might not make it because he had a couple of projects to finish up. The first was his new MSD ignition.

And, the second was relocating his battery. He got both projects completed and they looked great.

Here’s one more for you.

LarryP also showed up a little later and I forgot to get some shots of him and his ride. Maybe next time.

I think everyone had a great time. Chris brought along a couple of in-car videos from some of his races at Lime Rock. It was nice to see him spank some Miatas and a little painful to see him get sandwiched between two less-skillful drivers on Big Bend.

Who's up for next year?

Oh man!

I missed it! I've been wanting to get out and see some local 914s since I still don't have one yet (no place to put it indoors).

I've been away from the board for a while now anyway, been dealing with testicular cancer for about 2 months now. I'm OK but will be starting rad treatments in a week or so. Had the offending area removed.

Anyone local want to take me for a ride in their 914? It's been a long while since I've been in one. I'm in Stamford. I'll buy lunch!
