Rear Trunk Lid Problem

Sometime ago I purchased a gas-operated trunk opening kit from another source - long before Pelican began offering a set. I finally installed this arrangement after getting up enough nerve to remove the original torque rods.

The kit furnished templetes for drilling holes in the hinge and trunk lip for a bracket. Now I find that the gas shocks are pushing forward on the trunk lid, causing it to press against the engine compartment lid. The pressure is just enough to push the engine lid forward and away from its latch when I open the trunk lid.

No harm is done except the nuiscence of having to pull the engine release knob and then re-close the engine compartment lid.

I'm looking for a solution... does it seem feasible to move the mounting bracket farther toward the rear of the car so the pressure from the shock does not push the trunk lid forward enough to press against the engine lid when opening?

I have checked the tightness of hinge mountings and they are not loose... no play in the hinges mounts.

Thanks for any suggenstions.

Could it be that the shocks are pushing on the hinge bolts enough to make them *seem* tight?

If the trunk is opening all the way to it's stops, see if the shocks have some more travel left in them. If they do, then it seems reasonable to move the mounting point back to the point where the shocks have to fully extend to lift the trunk lid to the limit.
