BOGE Shock question

I just pulled a set of orange BOGE shocks off the rear of my 914 parts car. They are very close in color to the orange that Koni made famous. The part number on the shocks is 1-0201-32-054-5 versus the OEM shock part number of 1-0201-32-054-1.

The orange shocks do not have the Porsche ID number (91433305102) on them, rather it has the designation L22.

I talked with three local Porsche mechanics today who all have years of experience and not a one of them has ever heard of or seen an orange BOGE shock.

Are these simply the aftermarket version of the OEM shock, or are these more of a heavy duty version. Anybody have any knowledge of this?

More orange shocks

No spray paint. These were sprayed orange at the factory. Last night, I did run across one item that said these shocks were marketed by Interpart, which I always thought was part of the BRE Datsun Trans Am team. I was told by another friend that Interpart sold high performance parts, air dams shocks etc for a number of different cars from the late 1960's and well into the 1970's. From that it appears that BOGE "private labeled" these shocks for Interpart by painting them orange.

You need Koni's or Bilstiens anyway so are you replacing them?

No Joe. I don't have the budget to do Koni's or Bilsteins at this time. These Boge shocks seem to be nice and stiff, in spite of their age, so I am going to upgrade them with the heavy duty springs that came with my 914 and run with that for the time being. I have a lot of other things on the car I have to deal with before I set my sights on a set of Koni's.
