selling a 914

Anyone got some suggestions as to the best way to sell my 914 2.0 west coast car? Should I ebay it/classifieds/PP classifieds?

i sell stuff on eBay once in a while, but have not sold a complete car on it. I have heard that the number of winning bids that bail out is pretty high on cars.

which ever route you take, make sure you have plenty of pictures of the problem areas that people will want to know about.

since you are in the bay area, you shouldn't have too much trouble selling the car if it is decent.

what year?

Pelican, Rennlist, 914club.com, Recycler

Those four will get you significant nationwide eyeballs

You should have brought it to the roadglue 914 gathering last saturday. Parking it at the Carlsen swap meet with a sign on it last Sunday would have also been good.

In addition to other places mentioned listing it on Yahoo and collectorcartrader.com would probably also find you buyers. I think it you list it in the SJ Mercury you'd also get a listing at cars.com.

If you are going to sell on the net, post good pics. Nothing gets buyers more motivated.

If you're in the bay area: http://www.craigslist.org I believe it's hands down the best starting place.

selling 914

Tyler is right....I am getting lot's of inquiries from Craigslist. This is only meaningful to bay area buyers/sellers. Yahoo classifieds which charged me $7.98 for add has generated no response. Haven't used Rennlist yet or local classifieds. Lot's of questions regarding mileage and none on rust!!! I tell them the car has 4,000 mpyo. (Miles per year old.)
I'm addicted to my 914 and PP bbs but I just gotta kick this habit.

I'm a fan of craigslist (big one) but every car listed (914 wise) has been CRAP that I have looked at. Maybe I missed a few good ones, but the trend has been negative for me.

Sell it out of state (to another state that doesnt have smog)

List it on all the ones you mentioned for 2 weeks. If you don't have a buyer by then, list it on E-bay but be ready for the onslaught of stupid questions.

A quick Ebay tip: don't put in a reserve bid price. instead, start the bidding close to the price you want. That way, 1 bid is all it takes to sell it, and you won't get charged the reserve price fee if it doesn't sell.

sold

Sold it last night for a decent price. Feels like I just sold off one of my kids to a slave trader. I was totally unprepared for the interest this car generated. A lot of inquiries and potential buyers.
