More on gauges...that darn clock! Anyone done the PP fix?

I read with interest the addendum somone wrote in the 914 tech articles about fixing his 914
factory clock by cleaning it somehow, and says he sprayed this stuff on it, spun some wheel, and OOPS...it didn't work, and then he sprayed it with some other stuff and now it works. An interesting read, but it doesn't really outline a recommended procedure for cleaning these things. Judging from how crudded up my gauge lenses are right now, I've got to believe that a dirty mechanism might well be the problem. Anyone done this? Anyone found a better tool than the screwdriver for rolling the crimp on the bezels to get the glass/seals out?SmileWavy

The center console clock fix is pretty simple, on the early ("Type 1") version at least. It takes literally 10-20 minutes following the instructions in the tech article. You do need to track down the correct low-temp solder and a low-temp soldering iron. Some fine-tip tweezers or a hemostat, and a steady hand, also help.
