HELP ME (need production numbers)
I'm putting together a nice fat business plan and need the 914 production numbers from the first air cooled to the last air cooled.
If you dont have the numbers, but can point me in the right direction (website etc.) I would be very happy..lol The break down of engine type and cars would be nice. Anybody know where I can find this info ?? B |
Did you already ask Bruce Anderson?
Roland Kunz might also have the info. |
Hey Brad,
For chassis numbers, see: http://www.porsche-914-club-holland.nl/p914/chas.htm For engine numbers: http://www.porsche-914-club-holland.nl/p914/moto.htm Info includes 4 and 6 cyl. models and 916 HTH, Cheers, Jeroen PS did you get my e-mail? |
|
I'm really really lazy.
I need the final number for cars built from 1970-1976. Not he vin numbers. I can extrapolate the numbers.. but this has to be published somewhere. B |
|
I did a search and found that same link..
Thanks D. B |
I was just looking at this site a few minutes ago...
http://www3.porsche.com/english/usa/clubs/worldwide/clubnews/cw0104/pclassic.htm I have seen in other places the total production at around 118,000 cars, but this link is from the official P-car site. |
Jeff,
can you find the 911 numbers on the Porsche website ?? B |
There is more data on the www.dgi.net/914 site...see how they differ?
There is a HUGE discrepancy in the 1976 production numbers...10,000 cars one way or the other. I've also heard that the 1976 914 cars were only imported to the US and not sold in the ROW. |
http://www3.porsche.com/english/usa/clubs/worldwide/clubnews/cw0106/911zahlen.htm
This is all they have...I am not sure it is comprehensive... |
I somehow think the "14100" figure for the 1976 cars on the Porsche website might be a typo...

According to Brian Long's book:
year: 4 cyl + 6 cyl ----------------------------- 1970: 13,312 + 2657 1971: 16,231 + 432 1972: 21,580 + 229 1973: 27,660 1974: 21,370 1975: 11,369 1976: 4,075 approx 119,000 units total, including the odd 916 / 914-8 Bruce Johnson's book disagrees by less than 50 units. |
Ok,
The 914 BBS replied 12 times with useful information, not too mention the number of private emails I received. Thanks guy's. I got it all done before my meeting this evening (which went great..you guy's are in SOOOO much trouble) The 911 BBS (1 response) I know they built a ton of 911's but you would think that somebody over there was a GURU. I knew 80% of the 914 sales numbers off the top of my head. B |
Yeah....But how many 914's are still amonst the living. Most are in the grave/junk yards by now.
Jim |
So Brad...
what's the business plan? Need an investor? If its got to do with 914's, I am interested. |
How many are left? I think this was discussed awhile back and we came up with about 20 to 30,000 cars. Remember most 914's were sold in Calif and Az where they don't rust like in the other states.

RandyF,
I have secured 500k to get things rolling. It wont take any cash infusion after that. We are purchasing a 23 year old company. If you want to invest in some of the future 914 products that I want make... we can chat. The current owner is a 914 person and (me) will always be a 914 person. I'll shoot you a copy of the business plan when the 3 of us are done getting it together. JimS, I'm not buying a company to make money from selling 914 parts, I was actually using the 914 sales number to show that our product was on over half the cars sold (market penetration) B |
Brad,
I wasn't trying to question your direction. I was only wondering how many of our cars are left. I didn't mean any offense. Sorry! Jim |
It wasnt taken that way Jim. I have a very thick hyde. I didnt realize you where asking a question.
B |
Brad, please tell me you are going to start building new 914 chassis from original tooling like British Heritage does with all the cool little Brit cars. I'm just dreaming, but know there would be a pretty good market for them if only some saintly person would JUST BUILD EM! Can you just imagine brand new totally rust free chassis and galvinized metal to boot. If only sombody out there would hear my plea. Sorry, just dreaming out loud.

Several of us have sat around a large table and discussed what this would take (to build new 914's) Porsche wont cough up the tooling that we would need to dupe them. IF we duped the tooling it would cost around 650K to make the tooling for the stamping dies and trim dies.
The question is: Follow this thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-914-914-6-technical-forum/81898-what-would-we-pay-new-914-a.html B |
Porsche is so lame. I wish the 914 wasn't a Porsche. Don't they see they could stand to make some money and promote there name at the same time. If people are so fanatical about your product, past or present, wouldn't you try to acomedate them. I so wish the 914 was a Triumph or MG. Those people would make sure we had our bodies. They want the work. Porsche instead insults us by attacking our aftermarket suppliers. I guess I'm just wasting my time. I wish I was more into my Spitfire, but for some strange reason this car keeps louering me back.

This could be interesting... maybe a bit far off, but still
I think there would be quite a bit of interest if the built quality was good. I think there's enough people out there that would like to have a "real" sportscar, that can deliver a real driving sensation. You know, the stuff that Porsches were made of back when... Not one of those ******* cars like the new MR2, S2000 or Miata's, which are IMHO a poor excuse for a sportscar I'm thinking more in the lines of a Lotus Elise Except with German build quality 8^) Combine that with a serious Porsche drive train and I think you'd have a winner. Tube frame, "plastic" body work, independent double-wishbone suspension 4 available "luxury" options: Leather seats, leather dash, radio, sigarette lighter. 914 looks with updated bumpers, flared fenders and 17"or 18" wheels Shoot, I could go on for hours and hours... If you need more stoopid ideas or a european dealer, gimme a call 8^) Cheers, Jeroen |

Ever driven one of those "******* cars"? A 914 buddy of mine autoXed a 1st-year MR2 Spyder. His conclusion--"All it needs is a limited slip. Period!" --DD |
Hey Dave,
People don't buy these cars because they want a sportscar, they buy em because they look hip. And they're build to these standards They're made for the daily commute of hairdressers 8^) After a ride in a REAL sports car, your butt should be sore, your knuckles should be white and your knees should feel week. It should scare the living $hit outta ya every time you stomp the loud pedal. It should NOT be a car you could send your grandmother out with to get groceries But then again, that just how I see things 8^) Cheers, Jeroen |
