Colorado Fall Tour 2002
I posted this on rennlist earlier this week. Thought I'd throw it up here also. Come one come all. Drop me a note if you can make it. I'm not sure how many folks on this board are in the Denver area, but you're welcome to join us.
A second run for mid to late October is tentatively planned for the 19th or the 26th. Mike Begin included text: I told my wife I'd take her up to the mountains next weekend to see the aspens turn. What better way to go than in a topless 914? Then I remembered last year's fall tour. You see where I'm goin here don'tcha? Sharon and I are going either way, so if you can make it, great. If not, oh well. Maybe we can plan another drive for the end of October. Here's the plan. We'll meet at and leave the corner of Morrison and Rooney Rds. at 09:30 Saturday, September 21. Rooney Rd. is the road that Bandimere Speedway is on. C-470 to Morrison Rd. west 1/2 block or so to Rooney Rd. On the corner somewhere. Look for my crap brown 74 2.0 914 and any others that might happen to be there. Mapquest link is below. We'll drive west on Morrison Rd. (Hwy 74) through Evergreen and (we could detour here for the truly adventurous) up to Bergen Park. From there, west on 103 to loop over the Echo Lake. Personally, if the road is open, I'd like to drive up to Mt. Evans summit. For those that don't know, it's the highest paved road in the U.S. at least. Nice climb to 13,400'. If you've never done it, it's worth the trip. Ought to be extremely cool (literally) in a 914. From there, down to Idaho Springs and lunch at the Elephant Bar. We can split up there and head back down the hill on I-70. I myself might very well drive through Black Hawk/Central City and on down that way. My cell phone (spends most of it's life turned off until an event such as this): 720-480-2540 This aerial is kinda cool: http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/morrison.jpg I can't get this Mapquest link to work to save my can. Sorry. MapQuest link Last edited by gint; 09-19-2002 at 08:23 PM.. |

Leaving in a few minutes. It looks like Mt. Evans road is open. It's supposed to be the highest paved automobile road in America. Should be a blast in a 914. I'll post some pic of mountian goats when I get back.
