What was the first 914 web site you visited ?

Curious.

I know which one was my first.

probably the 914 club site when it was hosted at dgi.net, I guess sometime around 9/97.

Unforunately I think it was AA :(

Personal website or supplier?

I think LB's was one of the first people sites. Not sure about supplier. Coulda been Automotion because I was going on the outdated knowledge that they operated out of Sunnyvale so I went there looking for them.

Hot Teenage Les...

Oh! I'm sorry! You said 914 site!
It was The Porsche 914 Club. That site came up first on the Yahoo! search.

Brad Roberts 10-11-2002 12:01 PM

Paul,

I figured more people would answer that way... LOL

My very first website (non-Porsche) was Rotten.com

Dont visit it unless you have a strong stomach.

www.por15.com

Just kidding...actually I don't remember (what else is new) but the first 914 'resource' I found was Rennlist IIRC. That was only back in '99, before that (shame on me) I had really no knowledge or interest in these cars. Right around that same time is when the Pelican BBS started up, but the 914 content here was quite "weak" for the first couple years. Lately the 911 and 914 boards here have definitely passed Rennlist in terms of quantity and quality of posts...

Whaaaat??
Havent you seen my first registration data on this board ;-)

It was just me and Dave D. with a few paper cups and some string.

We had to tap out TCP packets and do the CRCs in our heads!

durring the dark times there were the rare 914 posts on DYM boards...sigh.. there were no matches around anyway ;-)
the Well was not for water and 300 baud acustic couplers were cool.

before the dawn there were the newsgroups..

At the dawn there was Rennlist ..and then it passed, and then skipped fall and winter and got some backing. niegh!

Then came DGI/914 and Dave saw it, and it was good.

I also remember having an automotion catalog, pre-www, when I bought (sort of) my first 914, 1987-88.

I lived and died by the DGI site, and the Porsche Fans list. wayyyy back when... but not as far back as AOL! lol

kellzey 10-11-2002 02:00 PM

I think... Tim's 914 Fan web site or something like that.

Regards,

Bleyseng 10-11-2002 03:37 PM

Back in '95 I think it was the Dgi site with their forums and then the PorscheFans site. Then Tim's 914 Page which is still cool.
I remember DD asking some interesting questions back then.....

I didn't live or die by it, but it was my first as well. And not that long ago. I'm newly back into the 914 after having sold the last one I had since '72 in '90. Went 12 years without. Some habits are hard to break.

...and some habits were never meant to be broken ;) I had to put my first one in storage for 6 years after getting married -- that's prbably when the rust did its work.

First Porsche site was a usnet newsgroup in the mid-80's; first 914 site was the 914 club on dgi.net (after getting the car _our_ of storage)
