Distributor plate connection
 

I'm back again for some more schooling. My question this time is, how important is the continuity between the two plates in the dizzy? The wire connecting the two plates in my 2.0 (with factory fuel injection) is almost in two. Will this create high resistance and lower the voltage at the spark plug? Or, does it really make much difference? And, is there a way to measure the voltage at the spark plug? Just want ensure spark is all it can be. Again, thanks in advance!

It's pretty important. If the ground braid is about done, the points plates are probably also about worn out. Good time to replace them.

Thanks! Now, can I buy just the plates? I don't think I have ever seen them for sale. Or do I have to replace the whole dizzy? Could the ground braid be replaced?

AA has them. I replace my plates. Comes with a set of points as well:

Yes, worth replacing if that braid is sketchy. It's worth cleaning a lot of the gunk out of the dizzy if it needs it. Good maintenance.

I would find a good used one and go from there ,I have seen vacuum cans for sale and all the main consumables but not these parts thats why I mentioned it.
What ever you buy as a replacement give the top advance plate shaft a good spray with brake cleaner down the centre after removing the felt wicks,check for free movement and lube with motor oil after.
I have found many of the top shafts to be solid or tight with a build up of gunk in that area,no every lubes them as Bosch intented:rolleyes:
