Early vs late door fit

My 76 has a right hand door from an earlier car (no side door beams). I seem to recall there is a difference in the fit of the early and late doors, can anyone confirm or deny this? I'm getting ready to paint it and want to be sure it's right.

PD,

As far as I know the only difference between early and late doors is that from '74 on there were safety bars as you mentioned, which made them a bit heavier but shouldn't affect the fit at all. Other than that they are pretty much identical.

Anyone have a different opinion?

Yep. Same fit into the body.

Differences? later doors are heavier (safer), better window regulators.

I just repaced a door on my 1973 race car with one from a 1970. The outer fit, hinges and latch mechanism was all the same but the window crank was different and had different mounting points. I cut the center out of my old door and put it in the new door and all fit okay.

Ok, good info guys. Looks like i'll leave it unless something else comes up soon. If i've got the old window mechanism i'd like to replace it, but i could live with it either way.

They have a swap meet next week here in Dallas Ft. Worth, I'll see what i can find there.

Thanks for all the input
