Anybody make Adjustable Drop Links?
 

Picked up a stock sway bar at Pomona last weekend and installed it this weekend on the white car.

When I went to look for the U-tab connections, to my surprise only one side had the tab.... then I recalled... oh yeah... this car had been hit... on the hit side there was U-tab, on the original side, there was none.... my mistake... had to genearate up an extra U-tab along with the mounting plates for the bushing mounts. I ended up putting a bolt through on one position of the mounting plate to form a "stud"... makes assembly a little easier.

There was a slight pre-load on the bar when I put it all together with the wheels off and the car jacked up.... not sure how to tell if there is a residual preload once the wheels are back on and the car is down... I guess try to unbolt things and rebolt with wheel on?.... Seems to me, without some time on a skid pad these things would be hard to tweek to optimum for real world conditions.

I would like to build some adjustable drop links or modify the existing ones.... any of you guys done it?... too cheap at least right now to fork over $100+ for some commercial units...

I saw them for around $140.

If I spring the $300 for a 19mm sway bar, does it come with adjustable drop links?

They come with a one-way adjustable link, i.e. a threaded turnbuckle on one end only.

The ones sold separately (for the big $) are adjustable on both ends and are designed so you can fine-tune them while still connected on the car. With the normal one-way kind, you have to disconnect the drop-link from the A-arm to adjust the preload.

In my view, that's not a big deal, because once you install the bar and set the preload, it really shouldn't change often at all.

The other nice thing about the fancy drop links though, compared to stockers, is they have no rubber in them. That by itself makes a noticable difference in the effectivity of the swaybar.
