Interior help - GT Felt

Hi All -
I have decided that my winter project will be to go all the way with my GT style interior. I have already done the dash and door panels and recently located the Koenig seats. In regards to the floor and upper dash pad covering, they list it as a felt. I cant imagine that it is truly that cheap craft style felt - does anyone know or has anyone seen what the actual stuff is?

Thanks!
Scott S in Co.

The felt is that same grey trunkliner (perlon) sp? used in the front bulkhead and on the sparetire cover. Porsche also used it to cover the entire rear trunk on the 916's I have seen (one).

If thats the case, it would also be the same material as the "headliner", at least in my car.

World Upholstery

I bought my Perlon (thick felt) carpet kit from World Upholstery.

http://www.worlduph.com/primo.htm

Seems to be good quality but I can't really comment on how it's holding up since I haven't installed it yet. Still, I think this is what you're looking for.

I just bought a roll of "speaker cloth" from my local fabric store. It looks and feels just like the old rotten stuff I pulled out of the car. While all I could get was black, I also only paid $5.95 per yard as opposed to over $20 per yard for "perlon" as I was quoted from a few standard sources. I'll also buy a few yards of black rubber for the floor mat areas. My local hardware store has a roll for under $4 per yard. I think I will keep my lower dash pad and dash covering instead of going to a true GT look.

ScottS,

What did you pay for your Koenigs ??

I have a set that I will sell in the near future that have never had an ass in them (bought new in 1973 and bagged ever since)

Wait until he replies...LOL I have NO idea what they should go for.

I also have 2 knockoffs I could sell for 150$ apiece. One is BROWN and the other is black.

Both in good shape.

If I remeber correctly Stable Energies sells the Konig seats for the 914, they look great and they fit into the backpad, for $465 each.

Here is a link I uploaded to my website which has a detailed shot of the Brumos GT car. I took the photo last weekend at the Oktoberfest at Brumos. I have a few other photos.

http://www.iepg.com/dscn0828.jpg

zoomed up close it DOES look like black perlon or the equivalent trunk material in black.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Thanks for all of the help/info all! I will go for the black perlon kit (and order an additional chunk to cover the rear firewall and center kill switch mount
I showed pictures of the seats to a guy who does interiors here locally. He said he could get them, we have not gone as far as to discuss price yet.
Are the replica seats a good replica? Who makes them? I have seen a cobeau that looks pretty close, but have no idea of the quality. I had one of their seats in a VW GTI AX car - the bolsters wore pretty quickly...

Brad - were you the one who sent me the blue prints for the GT firewall shoulder harness mounts a year or so ago?
Thanks again -
S

Scott:

I'd be interested in seeing the blueprints for the GT firewall shoulder harness mount.

e-mail me kellzey@iepg.com

THanks,

I started really taking apart my early 70 parts car and I looked at the carpeting. It's all Perlon grey/black felt! I am kinda suprised at that as I thought all cars had carpeting, some better quality than others. Even VW's of that era had real carpeting!
So for the floor boards and front bulkhead on a 914/6 GT felt like this musta been installed (el cheapo)
