If I am correct, that company is associated with a person who is known for shady dealings of many kinds. What you get from him isn't always what you think you're getting... Do a search on the 914world site for a thread titled "the onion" for one example. Also try a Google search on them, the first couple I have seen were not complimentary.

They're cheap, though. If you're lucky, you'll get what you pay for...

Why not just search for a shop that has been doing air cooled VW engines. That is what the Type 4 engine is. I gave my engine to a well known VW shop outside of Youngstown Ohio in November and he returned it to me late January completely rebuilt, with a cam for a bunch less than what a "Porsche" shop would have charged me. It runs great with the Webers.

Hey all. I looked at this site (importmotors.com) and at the "contact us" it did not even list there actual location, unless los angeles county is sufficient. Dave hits on the fact that there has been some sub-standard peeps/shops out there over the decades! In all honesty, and respect to Pelican Parts' site, there is a very strong air-cooled internet community, including the lil ole VW air cooled guys. On TheSamba.com :: Volkswagen Classifieds, photos, shows, forums, and information the administrator, Everett Barnes resides in Phoenix. I can e-mail him at your request, if you want to entertain looking for a local shop. My suggestion is to research the air-cooled shops in your area. Shipping, by freight, an engine would cost some dollars. Being primarily a "dealer boy" back during those days did not allow me to farm out specific customer work. But over the years performing side work has given me options to perspective customers. If your specific interest is in 914 engine work, if similar issues are same with the VW bus, the customer's concern is quality cylinder work. There are a few dedicated type 4/914 cylinder head experts on both sides of the country, and many are referred to Adrian at Headflow Masters in the north county of San Diego. And his site lists his actual address! Amazing! His work is highly regarded on thesamba and shoptalkforums.
I hope this helps, Bill.
