How do I lower my front end...

Just curious as to how I lower the front end of my 73 914? The back has springs that take it down a bit (160 #). What is the ideal way to lower the front?
Thanks
Korijo

There are adjusters (long hex bolts) for the torsionbars
You can find 'em where the a-arms meet the crossmember

You'll have to raise the car to get at the bolts and back them off 1 turn. Put the car on the ground and roll it or drive it a short distance and measure the drop. Repeat unitl you get what you want. Keep track of the turns on the bolts.

Zeke,
How would you rate this job? 1 being tire change; 10 being rebuilding 911 motor?
Thanks

A 2. Unless the bolt is frozen. If it doesn't turn fairly easy, stop and soak it with PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench and let it sit for overnite. Might have to repeat until free. If you break the bolt, you're in for a 6.

don't go too crazy lowering it or you're going to get bump steer.

When done lowering the front you'll need to get it aligned since lowering will change the toe in and the camber and can cause strange handling... Good luck.

Good call, JR.

Get the rears aligned at the same time. A few other items to think about, bump steer kit, Turbo tie rods.

Got the turbo rods ready for the upgrade. Just got to gather sway bar, new bushings, etc. etc.
Anything else you all know about to upgrade the front end?
Thanks

PO put on Koni reds in the rear, got new rotors all the way around (fronts currently drilled to 4x100), new bearings/seals, BMW calipers (rebuilt), pads.

19mm MC is next purchase, along with re-drilling rear hubs, install turbo tie rods, sway bar, and lower/adjust front end. All with my next social security check next month, unless my wife gets a hold of it first!!?

Wish me luck

rack spacers???

Did anyone mention steering rack spacers? Search the site. The Spacers will reduce the bumpsteer charateristics after you have lowered the front...

Very cheap adn safe too. win win :)

Yep..lower front end and rack spacers go hand in hand.
