While I have the motor out???

I bought a 73 914 last year that has a later 2 liter installed. The car ran great, if not a bit rough when cold and shifted well.

I pulled the motor with a buddy last night to clean up the engine compartment, solve some oil leaks (looks like push rod tubes), adjust valves, replace plugs, tune up, check all wiring and get the heat exchangers off and inspected/repaired, test and get fuel injectors cleaned/replaced, new fuel hoses, etc.

The last few times I had driven it it was missing slightly and seemed a bit down on power.

With the motor out, what would you recommend as a while you're in there list of things to replace and/or inspect??

With easy access to the engine compartment, I'd carefully check/ repair any rust around the battery box (especially the 'hell hole'), clean up the wiring connections by the engine compartment panel, and check the fuel lines under the engine shelf. Replacing the factory plastic ones with stainless steel ones is an option as well that's easier with the engine removed. Another project would be to replace the flexible brakes lines if they're original.

Obviously, cleaning, greasing with dielectric grease, and reconnecting all the electrical connections on the engine is much easier with the engine out. If you start detailing, the sky is the limit depending how anal you are about things.

Enjoy your project.
