this might be worthwhile for someone...

http://www.craigslist.org/sfo/sfc/car/6508417.html

if it actually has as little rust as it says, could be a cheap car for a east coaster to pick up. heck, the 2.0 alone has got to be worth something.

The add indicates $900 but the description indicates $500 to get it out of impound and $300 to the owner. Where does the extra $100 go?

Plus, if the car is in City Tow that means you can't look at before you pay the $500 to get it out. It may not even be worth $800 or $900.

Sounds like a great way for a seller to to get $500 for a POS.

The car is in an impound lot, so you can't inspect it or get a good look at it.

Psst...hey you. Yea buddy I'm talking to you. Wanna help me out and get a great deal at the same time?. Yea? Well step right over here...

You pay $500 to get the car out of impound. Then, you can look at it. I don't think so.

if it's in the same place my 928 got impounded (which it probably is) you can look at the car. heck, the place even signed my car over to release it to a friend.

I think the extra $100 bucks goes to a good proctologist to repair any internal damage done by this "deal".

hah, I'm surprised everyone is so critical of this car without seeing it. of course it's not going to be a beauty, but it might be better than a lot of cars in the rust dept. people seem to pay $500 alone for a running 2.0 motor with FI. I think I might stop by there tomorrow to check it out for the fun of it. the typical bitterness of the forum has me intrigued now! heck I just parted out a 2.0 car and made over $2k, and that was only with a 2.0 longblock.

Go check it out. You have nothing to lose. I would pick it up, but I dont have any room for extra cars right now.

Humm.. 12 pack of Sierra Nevada pale ail says it's NOT a 2.0

yeah I will see if I can tomorrow. besides the engine code (which might not be easy to see quickly) what is the best way to tell if it is a 2.0 or not? yeah I have the room for an extra car now, but I just cleaned up one mess today! if it's worth parting out I might snag it.

Large square box for a air cleaner mounted up high
3 studs/nuts holding the intake runners on
Spark plugs come in from the sides and not from top like a 1.7/1.8 engine.
Look for sway bars and a center console.
Look for Fuchs.

Oh.. JOB info. The guy's who started SiteSmith have 30mil in funding and are starting a new consulting company here in the south bay. They have been going around buying up the small to medium consulting companies and their contracts.

don't get too revved up about moving back; if you believe what you read, the auto industry is about to slow quite a bit, and autos and homes have been the bright spots in the current economy. I hope they're wrong, I don't want to be looking, too.

see, I know if I move back to MI I will even have a harder time finding a job. BUT, houses are dirt cheap compared to here. I would say on avg about 1/5th the cost. when I looked for houses in SF 4 years ago the cheapest one I found was $200k. it was less than 1000 sq ft, was boarded up, and in a bad neighborhood. for $200k in MI I am living in a pretty darn nice house. oh well, I will stick it out until the bitter end.

do you work for GM?
