A/C idler pulley??
Hey guys, I am installing the DPD a/c system in my '74 and have run into a slight problem..
The idler pulley is too low to work with the sanden 508 compressor. The back of belt was ment to ride on the pulley. I guess the york had a larger or lower compressor pulley. Has anyone found a fix for this? I was thinking about moving the idler pully up some??? Thanks Kerry ![]()

Kerry,
I ran into the same problem recently. I ended up having to redrill holes in the Sanden mounting plate to lower the height of the compressor. Not only did mine not touch the idler pulley, but the top swing of the belt was hitting the top mounting bracket. I was using the VPC swing bracket with the Sanden plate mounted to that. If you're using the DPD plate, it might accomodate something similar. Keep in mind that you also have to allow room for adjustment to tighten/loosen the belt. This may also cause the belt to move above the idler, depending on which bracket your working with. Actually I was quite let down by the "Bolt-in" approach of the Sanden kit. Mine was far form just bolting in. I hope your engine is out of the car, as Iwould hate to even attempt this type of fitment with the engine in. Enjoy!

Thanks, I do have the engine out. It is FAR from a bolt on job as you found out also.
I ran out of daylight and will be redrilling the mounting holes next weekend. I think between shims and new holes I maybe able to get the thing aligned correctly. Thanks again
