Paint Job Advice

I am currently stripping my 74 914 by hand with a palm sander, angle grinder and a *****load of elbow grease. I am getting rid of a lot of little rust spots. My question is... if I have someone else paint the topcoat, am I going to save any money? I planned on using an acid etch primer on all of the spots I clean off. Is this going to save and cash or just give me piece of mind knowing that I personally got every bit of rust I could on the car. Should I just drop it off at the paint shop and tell them to go for it or should I keep going? Looking for a little encouragement or a head shaping lesson on doing this time consuming, lung removing, painful job.
I do at least want to do all the spots behind bumpers, under the rockers and in the trunks with POR-15 myself but this little car is getting bigger and bigger everyday!!!

I don't know about saving any money by having someone else do anything to your car. I do all my own painting. that's the fun part, sort of a reward for all the dirty work.

Don't know much about acid etching primer, but get all the rust off before priming. Epoxy or polyester primer is what I use.

Try to find a paint supply shop and pump them for info. One of the first things I was told years ago was to stay with one brand throughout the whole job, I.E. sealer, primer, paint and clear. I use Dupont but there are several good brands to choose from. If you remove paint from an area rather than the whole panel there will be a depression eventually show up when the paint drys and pulls down. As Milr said, get all the rust out and don't let things sit in primer very long or rust can form under the primer. Good luck.
