Which MPS is this?
I was looking at the MPS I pulled from my car, and it doesn't seem to match up with any of the normal references. The numbers on it are:
0 280 100 003 and 022 906 051 Now, I can find the 022 906 051 (no suffix) as the MPS number for a 2.0 liter, but nothing seems to match up to the VW number. Is this an oddball? It was what was in my 1.7l when I bought it 10 years ago or so, and was running OK in it. |

I don't have my book with me, but it's likely it's an early VW unit. It's not surprising your 1.7 ran well with it. Most of the MPS's are calibrated to the same standard for part-load operation, the main differences are in the full-load calibration, and even there they're pretty close in many cases.

It was running , though, and seems to hold a vacuum (it even held a bunch of *water* for some unknown period of time), so I'll go ahead and reinstall it when the time comes.l |

The key numbers are the 280 100 003 not the VW numbers. I have a 003 in my hand that was off a 70 1.7L.
When we discuss MPS's we refer to the last three digits of the Bosch numbers ie: 037-73 2.0L, 043-74 2.0L etc. Geoff

While it is entirely possible that the 003 MPS came on the '70 914, it is not listed in any reference I have for that application. The 049 MPS is what all of my doc specifies for the '70 914.
The '98 Bosch FI guide does not list the 003, as it is long obsolete. The earliest unitls listed are the 001 and 007, both of which are T3 applications. |

I think the standard 049 MPS fits all 1.7l's replacing any defective units. The 2.0l units are more year specific and must be used with the correct matching FI parts.
The other early MPS I have run across is a 019 unit. That was off a 412 car. Geoff
