D-Jet AAR
 

Can anyone tell me what a D-Jet auxiliary air regulator is? or better yet have a picture? Is that the same as a decel valve?

I could really stand to see a pic of one (or even a few). There appear to be a couple of different types and part numbers according to Brad's site. I have one of each, but the early unit that looks like Brad's line drawing is a type III unit.

1.7L, 2.0L 1970 - 1976 No longer available. BGDIP also lists a 0 280 140 101 for the 74-75 914, and a 0 280 141 011 for the 1.7L 1970 to 1973.

The drawing on his site is pretty much what the 1.7 and 2.0 ones look like. The two hose fittings are at an angle to each other when you view them from the top.

I suspect the Type III and 1.7/2.0 D-jet ones are pretty similar looking. Similar performing, too, I'd bet--but probably not the same...

The 1.8 one looks a bit like a witch's hat laying on its side.

What's the p/n on the unit you have? I can look it up in the Bosch FI catalog.

The T3 units may look similar, but the 005 one I picked up on Ebay has different intake and outlet diameters than the right part for the 914.

The type III unit that looks similar (I think, no 4 cylinder around here anymore) to the 914 unit is part number 0 280 140 005

The other looks like what Dave described as "a witch's hat laying on its side" is part number 0 280 140 101 (VW 022 906 045)

The 005 is a T3 unit.

Dead/non-functional AAR's can be restored or rebuilt. Most can be brought back to life by soaking the top part of the unit in solvent then lubricating to free up the vane. Units that are too clogged to be freed up or that have an open or shorted heater need to be rebuilt. DD has posted a procedure here in the past. The can is carefully pried open, and the mechanisim is cleaned and restored. The heater can be repaired either by simple soldering of open connectors or by the replacement of the heater with a series of power resistors of equivalent resistance value (they get hot, too).

Here is a pic of a extra AAR valve #007 off a 2.0L.

The part in the center is the type III AAr. The part on the right is the AAR labeled 0 280 140 101 Now is that a L-Jet AAR? Your web page (Brad A.) states:

Can/was this used on later model 2.0 D-Jet cars?

Part on right is the unit for the 1.8L, L-Jetronic unit.

On the Type III, it is of a similar type and would function.

I suspect that the differences in the OEs for both the L-Jet & D-Jet would be different orifice sizes and/or rate of closure. Secondary air orifices are set by cfm required by engine at high idle.
