Rabbit flares
I first saw these on a 914 back in Texas (1988 or so)
My friend Jason paid 20$ a piece for them from pick and pull. When/if you do this.. use 4 FRONT Rabbit fenders. More pics in a few days or so.. the car just rolled out of the paint booth. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-001F.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MVC-00c3F.jpg For those of you in Texas.. Cockroach runs the same flares, but wasnt the first car that I saw them on. B |
So do you know who built the Cockroach?
By the way Ed has it for sale:eek: |
wow I heard about this years ago, but never saw it. looks pretty darn good to me.
BTW...how much larger wheel/tire can it accomodate? |
Hey Mark,
Rich (the guy who worked for Zims) and then quit and married a lady wrench who worked for Zims also, built all the cars with Rabbit flares when he lived in Amarillo. Rich is now in South Ft.Worth with a small shop. His last name is on the tip of my tongue, but I do not recall it. Grey bearded guy... super nice.. really really knows the 356's and early 911's. Damn.. Rich Johnson knows him... everybody in NorTex knows him. B |
16 x 8
|
Lambert, he also works on 914"s He was in Lubbock
I let him fine tune both the 914 and the 911. He has some good ideas that work. :D |
I want some!!! Looks booty-licious :-)
Thanks Brad, now my wife is gonna beat me :-( Korijo |
They fit great and are cheap to come by. We lowered the car and moved the flares up.. The car really really looks LOW now.
The stock "lip" on the flare matches the lines of the 914 (both cars from Karmann...humm wonder why they match..) B |
YES !!! Lambert..
I deal with so damn many Rich's..I couldnt remember. His wifes name is Mary Anne ?? Please tell him I said hello. He actually was nice to me when I was screwing up 914's at age 18 (Unlike Al Zim) who didnt start talking to me until age 23. B |
wow neat option, the GT flares stick out like sore thumbs, the rabbit flares don't completely change the line of the fender, just a nice bump, would be nice to see the whole side, to compare to the GT flares
|
Camera is dead (charger is 1.5 hours away) I will have pics of it tomorrow some time. The rears look just as good.
B |
Those flares look pretty good.
I can't *really* tell form the pics, but they appear to have a full radius shape (as seen fron the side) that matches the tire.....a bit larger,of course. Looks gud, but it'll get you in trouble with the rules makers of various sanctioning groups.....SCCA for one. |
B,
Got a pic of rear flare installation? John |
JP,
They only get you in trouble when you put a tire wheel combo under them that doesnt fit the rules. This is a fully caged BP 914 2.0 that will roll on 17's during the week and run on 15X6's on the weekends to comply with BP rules. So.. flairing the fenders isnt illegal, its the wheel tire combo you run under them (at least in our regions) B |
John,
My camera is dead (charger is about 1.5 hours from here) 90% of my pics where taken years ago and I just pull them from the server as I need them. I'll have complete pics of the car sometime tomorrow while I deliver it to the owner from the paint shop. I shot those pics with the body shop camera and stole the floppy from them. You ready for parts ?? OH.. the flares are radius'ed from top to bottom. They dont end in the middle of the fender. B |
Brad:
You're right, flaring isn't illegal, but, per SCCA Solo & GT road race rules, the shape of the wheel well, as viewed from the side, must be the same as stock..just like the ones on your tube car...unless you want to run in the modified classes. |
This is a PCA car. I'll let him worry about it.. LOL.
Damn.. I knew my wheel wells looked stock for a reason. B |
Brad,
did you look at any of the grand junction or colorado cars at the club race... AJ out of grand junction put a set of these on a colorado car about 6-7 years back... and at one time about 6 of the locals were running this... Dale Tutey's white "I" class car runs these with 7 inch wheels... (the prepaired rules limit him to 7s.. not the flares) brant |
My son informs me that the VW Golf G60 flares will also fit, they are a bit wider, and probably more expensive. The Corrado was also a Karmann product...Hmmm. I 'll have him dig up some pictures of them!
Randy |
Brant,
It wouldnt surprise me if Rich Lambert and Allen knew each other. Rich used to be in the Amarillo area of Texas (about as close to Colorado as you can get and still be in Texas) I saw the I car you where referring too.. (white one ??) It sat about 3 feet in the air in the rear ?? I'm thinking real cheap now... use the plastic flares they used on the Jetta's. They where black/grey plastic and screwed to the steel inner fender. B |
