Surface rust. What to do?
I was wondering what product(s) if any are good to neutralize surface rust. I will begin to clean up a few rusty spots and keep them from gewtting any worse until its time to go to the body shop. The areas that need work: #1 The battery tray area- the tray and support are pretty much gone but the panels underneath look pretty good. #2, Some surface rust in the rear trunk. #3 some surface rust on the upper fender near the tagra pillar. I need to know after sand all of the rust away that I can- is there anything that will neutralize any remaining rust, and is there anything I can spray on it to protect the areas until I take it to the paint shop[?

you can use picklex 20, which works great on rusted and clean bare metal. all you do is spray it on. you won't want to get it wet though until it's painted or epoxy primed over.

Naval jelly, Ospho, POR-15's Metal Ready, and others. The active ingredient in most or all of them is acid, usually phosphoric acid. It turns the rust to this hard black stuff that doesn't spread any more.

rustmort works well - doesnt dry like a ceramic coating the way por15 does - any auto paint store will have it - need to expoxy a day or two afterwards

The best way is to sand blast it and paint it with an ethcing primer. Since most of this is not in a cosmetic area, this would probably be your best bet. IMHO!
