What's this part called???

Does anyone here know the name of the padded strip thing that runs across the interior at the top of the windshield and is behind(ish) the sun visors and is pretty much on level with the targa top front latches? It is semi-thick foam with a vinyl coating.

Mine has a nasty chunk out of it and I'd like to replace it......yet I have no idea how to reference it.

Come to think of it, anyone know where I can get one of these cheap???

I have two nice ones, not sure what they are called.

Potter 11-01-2002 02:32 PM

Are they (or one) listed at your URL? I did not see them. Are you selling?

derek_sf 11-01-2002 02:37 PM

Kinda like to know what that what'sit'sbucket is called myself. I have a nice one also. One of these days I need to put a list together. It would help to have a name for it.

You got me wondering what it's called to. So I looked it up in the "914 Porsche Parts Catalog" I got. It simply said:

P/N: 914.555.047.12 Padding for Windshield, Upper

boxstr 11-01-2002 07:15 PM

Is it the piece that is secured to the targa top or the piece secured to the top of the inside windshield frame??
The piece secured to the targa top is called a "roof edge padding", the other piece is called the "front top bolster panel".
Figured I might as get some use out of the factory workshop 914 manuals that I purchased recently.

I got a set not too long ago myself. But I was too lazy to dig for the right manual and look it up. Spent most of the day replacing a water pump in my SIL's 4A-GE Toyota Corolla. Thanks all.

The part is officially called the top bolster. I know exactly what you are talking about. I looked for months to find one for my car and ended up buying a whole new top just to get it. (BTW I have a top without bolster for sale -hehe)

But top foam padded thingy would work for most people too!

But we're talking about the padded trim piece that mounts to the windshield frame, not the targa top.

Potter 11-02-2002 06:54 PM

OK.........I am man enough to admit it. I goofed. The part I am talking about is actually attached to the targa top. You gotta gimme a break here........I live in Ohio and it is COLD.....when the top is on it looks like it is attached to the windshield frame.

BTW, I am a transplant. These Ohio people see this car and say such things as, "is that there one of them mody-fyed My-attas or a some kinda jimmied Emmm Jeeey Beeey?". Mention something about Porsche or James Dean and they think you are talking about pornography and sausage. (sorry Dave Barber)

From the initial post I ASSumed that it was the targa top he was talking about. Looks like I was right, but you know what the say about ASSuming things . . . .

front bolster pad

Potter: Never replaced the the front bolster pad, BUT I just got done replacing the rollbar pad. Doubt if it's much different. I had a h--l of a time getting it off the car. Lots and lots of little screws well hidden. Small hand mirrow helps. also you get ALL the screws out go to hardware and buy new,a 1/4 longer,Also a ice pick to line up the holes in the pad to the holes in the car. Leave loose until all are in. Have fun?

If you had moved to Ky. people would hve ask" Hay ain"t that there back winder kinda small for your rifle rack" Dave KimpleSmileWavy :p
