engine question
 

My engine is a 73 1.7 stock F.I., does any body know the function of the two hoses that (one each) come out of the cylinder heads, then to the flashback valve and then to the air cleaner.
I would like to know wether or not it matters if the hose is pluged into the air cleaner or if it can be left loose, as I am adapting a K&N performance airfilter to my engine and it will be easier if I don't have to make a fitting for the hose. Thanks

i think they're just crankcase vent hoses as part of the emissions control. i guess they'd only be a problem if you have emissions inspections,

PVC Positive Crankcase Ventelation, it is a good thing. Yes, it is for e-miss control but it also keeps your oil cleaner and helps prevent either blow-by at the rings or oil leaks because of the preesure blowing out your vavles cover gaskets.

Do NOT plug it, if nothing else leave it open to the atmosphere but run it under the engine tin. If it is left open above the tin it will get oil vavpor everywhere.

A better way is to hook it into the aircleaner (on carbs) or the stock location of FI (after the TB, in the intake manifold).
