replacing muffler

o.k. you 914" Gurus"; I have been thinking about replacing my stock muffler with an aftermarket unit...back in 78 I owned a 2.0 with the 4 outlet "monza" exhaust (loved the look of the 2 pairs of chrome tips!!!) now I see "borsche" has a similarly priced system (with a single chrome tip) that seems quite popular with many owners....anyone care to throw the pros and cons my way!!! (pelican offers both units for about $200 each)

You did not mention what car you have now. If you are running '73/'74 2.0ltr or 2.0ltr SSI heat exchangers, you may want to look into the Triad exhaust. If this is what you have you have a choice of three styles, 1st. single outlet (stock exit), 2nd. dual outlet (stock exit and mirror image of stock exit), 3rd. dual outlet (left side stock exit and right side down, SCCA legal with no modification of valance). I ran one on my 2.0ltr 4 cyl. one on my 2.0ltr 6 cyl. and now one on my 2.7ltr six. It is a little more than the $200 you quoted, but check it out! The web site is an infant yet but look at www.triadwestperformance.com

The Bursch is just ok, I have one but it doesn't sound all that great. It sounds like a bug header.
The Triad is a nice muffler and sounds deeper and more "six" like. Soon as I can I will be switching it to a Triad set up.

I have a triad on my 2.0. It sounds far and away better than any other 914 exhaust that I have seen, and I have seen a bunch.

I have a slightly modified engine, so the sound is a little more agressive than stock, but after I put it on, I have rev'ved up the motor and had strangers ask, "Dang, wutcha got in that thang?"

"Oh, just one of those Bug motors......"

my two cents.
