shimmy @ 80mph

I have a slight shimmy at 80 mph. If I go past 80 it smooths out, if I drop back to 75 it smooths out. I just had the car aligned and it feels as if it's coming from the back wheels. If I lay the weight of my hand against the shifter and bias it to the rear, it will bounce slightly at the same time the shimmy starts.

I'm thinking bent driveshaft, worn trans mounts, bad CV, or any/all of the above??? Any thoughts???

Thanks!

You might have just lost a wheel (balance) weight. Happens pretty often.

start with the tires.....flip front to back.....see if the shimmy goes too..then it's a tire....wheel weight or out of round tire....if it stays at the back, then think CV joint.

I went through this a few months back at 60-62 mph. Smooth below and above those speeds. Had tires balanced, disassembled struts and inspected, checked wheel bearings, tie rods as well as ball joints.

Cause was actually one of the easiest things to check. One of my front tires was out of round about 3/16" by the calibrated eye. Rotated it to the back and shake went away at all speeds.

I decided to stop driving until 5 lug conversion and new tires are installed.

Any place that has a wheel balancing machine has wheel weights. If there any good (read experence with mags) they have the stick-on type that go on the inside of magwheels. Sometimes they have to go on the outside......
