Shift from 1st-->2nd

I have not driven the 914-6 for a while and just wondering if my shifting skills need some improvement? While shifting from 1st to 2nd, I get the ocassional slight grinding( I think it's reverse... ouch!) Other than learning not to lean the shifter to the left too much when shifting from 1st to second, is there a hardware upgrade I can do to prevent the ugly sound of gears grinding?

Yours truly,

I'd say your problem is the lockout plate or the spring(s) in the shifter asembly. I think Pelican sells a kit to replace this stuff? Good luck...

tailshifter?

If you still have the tailshifter in it, check ALL the shift linkage. Once you ensure that all bushings are good, and all connections tight, the next step is the spring. The Weltmeister kit available here is a worthwhile expense if you still have the grinding.

Other than that, shift slow and easy!!! Its a 30 year old Porsche!! Not a Miata! (that's what I tell me self all the time)

I just double-clutch the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts in my '76 2.0. The spring resistance to get the shifter lever over into first or reverse is quite strong on my car. I can just push the gear lever straight forward and the spring pulls it over far enough to make it go right into second.
