Why do so many switch to carb systems?

Generally cause most don't understand the stock EFI,remember this is really basic stuff but many blame this system and fit carbs.....mostly this is a mistake for the following reasons;
carbs won't pass smog test,
fuel economy,
decreased drivablity unless set up really well $$$$,
constant need for tuning,
stock cam is not suited to carbs,
ease of starting,
stock fuel pump needs to be changed for LP type,
lowered resale,
quality of carb kits,recently the chinese copy sets have had mixed reviews.

There is other issues that others may state,so in summary its better to sink money into the stock EFI system than spend the best part of 1K going to carbs which will result in a great running engine or a so so one.
This is afterall IMO so take it however,cheers.

They switch because the carb setup is simpler, and old-school mechanics understand it better.

Some people switch with the mistaken idea that they will get more power. (That's an illusion: They get more noise which feels like more power.)

Some switch because they modify the motor beyond the ability of the stock FI system to keep up, but they don't want to use aftermarket FI.

I'm sure that some people have other reasons as well.

Irritates the FI cam, lower mileage, cleans up the engine bay, kinda cheaper. Then you burn or drop a valve seat. Rebuild it correctly with the right cam and then gain some HP.
